A substantial and visually compelling mid-century vintage toy collection, comprising approximately 45 die-cast vehicles, trailers, commercial transports and construction models, led by desirable Matchbox Series by Lesney Regular Wheels issues retaining original illustrated boxes and a notable group of larger Matchbox transport models preserved in period red plastic display cases. Spanning the golden era of British die-cast toy production, the collection offers a richly varied panorama of post-war automotive and industrial design, from workaday municipal vehicles and heavy machinery to streamlined passenger cars, competition models and imaginative custom vehicles.

The boxed Matchbox selection includes three brightly finished farm and utility trailers, among them a blue stake trailer and two turquoise-and-orange covered trailers, each presented with its original yellow-and-blue Matchbox Series box. The larger cased models encompass specialized commercial and industrial subjects, including heavy transport, earthmoving equipment, an exploration or utility vehicle, a white commercial truck, a pipe-carrying trailer and additional machinery. Their surviving period display containers are especially attractive features, preserving the presentation character that made these toys instantly recognizable in contemporary shops and catalogues.

The extensive loose assortment includes cranes, dump trucks, refuse and street-cleaning vehicles, articulated transports, flatbed and stake trucks, buses, delivery vans, fire apparatus, taxis, agricultural machinery, a tractor, bulldozer, Volkswagen Beetle, American-style passenger cars, sports cars, racing prototypes, hot rods and custom vehicles. Particularly appealing details include BP commercial livery, movable booms and tipping bodies, exposed engines, period racing numerals and an unusually broad range of body styles, scales and color combinations. The collection appears to incorporate products from several established British and international die-cast manufacturers, although individual makers and model numbers have not been conclusively verified from underside markings.

Accompanying the vehicles is a complementary group of vintage parlour and educational games, including a wooden domino set in its fitted sliding case, Parker Brothers Flinch with cards and instructions, Milton Bradley Letter-Grams crossword card game, Contact by the Copp Clark Company of Toronto, and WFF - The Beginner’s Game of Modern Logic. Together, these additions broaden the lot into an evocative survey of mid-century childhood recreation, combining miniature transportation, family card games, language play, mathematical logic and traditional tabletop entertainment.

Condition varies considerably, as expected in a collection assembled and enjoyed over many decades. The boxed and cased Matchbox examples generally present attractively, with age-related wear, creasing, soiling, handwritten pricing and abrasions to the
