An elegant signed Inuit stone sculpture titled Bird, hand carved in 2021 by Joe Poodlat of Taloyoak, Nunavut, accompanied by its original Government of Canada Igloo Tag certificate. Measuring 3 1/2" x 2" x 2 1/2" tall, this intimate yet highly expressive carving presents a refined Arctic bird in a fluid modernist form, balancing abstraction, movement, and traditional Inuit sculptural language.

Carved from dark green-black stone with warm tan natural matrix inclusions, the work displays a beautifully polished surface contrasted by organic mineral patterning throughout. Poodlat reduces the bird to its essential gesture: a raised head, sweeping body, low grounded base, incised circular eye, and broad wing-like planes that create a sense of motion and alert presence. The sculpture’s compact scale gives it strong cabinet-piece appeal, while the confident carving and balanced silhouette make it especially attractive for collectors of Canadian Inuit art, Taloyoak sculpture, Indigenous stone carving, Arctic wildlife subjects, and contemporary Inuit modernist forms.

The underside bears an incised artist signature and inventory label, matching the included certificate. The Government of Canada Igloo Tag identifies the artist as Joe Poodlat, community Taloyoak, date 2021, and description Bird, providing desirable documentation for authenticity and provenance.

Presents very well overall, with no cracks or losses. Surface shows natural stone inclusions, mottling, polish variation, light scuffs, and minor handling wear consistent with hand-carved Inuit stone sculptures. The tan areas appear to be natural matrix within the stone. Certificate has light creasing and handling wear.
57532
