Roger Clemens signed limited-edition Toronto Blue Jays baseball art commemorating one of the defining achievements of his career: his 1997 American League Cy Young Award, the fourth Cy Young Award he had won to that point and the inspiration for the work’s title, “The Four Cy’s.” Created by sports artist Rob MacDougall, the large-format composition presents Clemens in full Toronto Blue Jays uniform in a commanding pitching pose, set before an oversized portrait and a sepia-toned procession of historic baseball figures, visually placing his contemporary achievement within the broader lineage of the game. The lower margin is hand-inscribed in graphite “Artist Proof 40/197” at left, prominently signed “Roger Clemens 21” at center, and additionally signed by artist Rob MacDougall at right. The sheet further bears embossed presentation text reading “THE FOUR CY’S - ROGER CLEMENS - 1997 AMERICAN LEAGUE CY YOUNG AWARD WINNER,” together with an embossed Major League Baseball Players Association emblem and World Sports WSMI Merchandising Inc. mark. Clemens’s 1997 season was his first with the Toronto Blue Jays and marked a major career resurgence; he ultimately became the only pitcher to win seven Cy Young Awards, giving this contemporary commemorative work added historical resonance within both Blue Jays and Major League Baseball collecting. Incorporated at the lower left of the custom presentation is a 1992 Donruss MVP Roger Clemens baseball card depicting him during his Boston Red Sox tenure, providing an additional period collectible that traces an earlier chapter of his Hall-of-Fame-calibre pitching career. Particularly desirable elements include the low Artist Proof designation 40/197, Clemens autograph, MacDougall artist signature, Toronto Blue Jays imagery, direct 1997 Cy Young Award subject matter, embossed MLBPA-related presentation details, and integrated vintage-era baseball card. Professionally custom matted in coordinated Toronto Blue Jays blue and gold tones and housed under glass in a substantial black frame with gilt inner accent. Overall frame dimensions: 29 1/2 x 21 1/2 inches. The display presents very well, with the print, signatures, embossing, matting, and card appearing clean and visually strong; minor evidence of age or display may be present to the frame. Not examined out of frame. No independent third-party autograph authentication or accompanying certificate.
