Antique Canadian National Railway caboose marker lamp manufactured by the Hiram L. Piper Co. of Montreal, Canada. The black metal body is embossed "CNR" and retains blue and red Fresnel glass signal lenses, a carrying handle, mounting bracket, vented chimney, and hinged access door. The base is marked “HLP M,” identifying Hiram L. Piper of Montreal. The chimney release is embossed “TO OPEN DOOR RELEASE CHIMNEY.” Marker lamps were mounted at the rear of a train or caboose to display railroad signals. Measures approximately 19 inches tall with the handle raised and 9 inches in diameter at the base. Estimated era: 1920s-1940s. Displays wear appropriate for its age and railroad use, including paint loss, scratches, oxidation, discoloration, and general surface wear. The glass lenses appear intact.
