Depicting Indians on the war path, mounted on a marble base. Base measures approximately 31" x 11. Overall height is approximately 10 1/2" tall. Carl Kauba (1865-1922). Born in Vienna, he never visited America but was inspired by stories written by Carl May and many photographers and illustrations which he had seen. Other inspirations came from the possession of a complete Western saddle and other Indian artifacts that an American friend from Ohio sent as gifts. Kauba worked in a studio in his home and personally directed the casting of his clay models in local foundries.
