By Melvin C. Warren (1920-1995). Numbered 140/150, singed and dated 1972 on base of statue, produced for the Texas Rangers Sesquicentennial Anniversary (1823-1973). Statue mounted onto a custom mesquite wood base. Measures approximately 25" long x 9" wide x 14" tall. Melvin Warren (1920-1995) served a short stint in the Air Force, before earning his degree in fine arts from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas. As many artists do, he struggled. Working a job by day, and by night, he painted the people, places, and historic events of the West. His father was a cowboy on the ranches of Texas and New Mexico so the subject matter came to him easily. While living on a ranch in Seymour, Texas, he combined his art and way of life and after taking a class at the Federal Art School, his life direction was set. By the early 1960's he found enough success to join the Cowboy Artists of America and won the Memorial Award in 1968 with his very first exhibit. Before long, President Lyndon Baines Johnson became one of his most avid collectors.
