An American Federal inlaid mahogany four-drawer chest. Second quarter 19th century. Having a rectangular molded top above four graduated cockbeaded drawers. Mahogany drawer fronts are outlined with contrasting lightwood stringing and fitted with brass oval bail pulls and keyhole escutcheons. Spiral-carved quarter columns flank the case, which rests on shaped bracket feet. Pine secondary woods and an early horizontally boarded back. Condition: Scratches, stains, fading, and finish wear throughout. Noticeable veneer and molding losses at the upper left corner, with additional chips, shrinkage separations, and old repairs around the case and feet. Drawer runners and sides exhibit wear; brass hardware appears replaced. Locks and keys have not been tested.
