Renaissance Revival Carved Walnut Griffin Side Chair. Late 19th - early 20th century. Carved chair, its pierced back centered by confronting winged griffins flanking an oval medallion amid foliate scrollwork. Retains richly embroidered crimson velvet upholstery depicting a standing figure within a pastoral landscape, bordered by floral designs and brass nailhead trim. T Condition: Extensive fading, staining, pile loss, abrasions, and loose or missing embroidery to the velvet upholstery. The wooden frame has scratches, finish wear, small chips, and scattered losses. An old metal brace or repair is visible on one rear leg. Frame stability and upholstery integrity have not been tested.
