A first edition of Captain Walter Campbell's classic Asian sporting narrative, The Old Forest Ranger; or, Wild Sports of India on the Neilgherry Hills, in the Jungles and on the Plains, published in London by How & Parsons in 1842. Features multiple full-page lithograph plates (including title page) executed on separate, toned paper stock, all depicting dramatic big game hunting scenes. Bound in ornate period half-leather and marbled boards with bright gilt-tooled spine compartments and all edges gilt. Condition noted: half-leather binding shows rubbing and moderate wear to edges, corners, and spine joints; internal pages remain overall bright and stable, with occasional light foxing and faint water damp-staining near top margins; tipped-in lithograph plates are well-preserved with sharp impressions.
