This is a decorative earthenware teapot produced by John Sadler at the Central Pottery in Burslem, England. The vessel is finished in a dark cobalt blue glaze with an iridescent sheen, providing a backdrop for elaborate raised gold-tone slip decoration in a style resembling moriage. The ornate patterns include scrolling foliage and geometric borders, further accented with turquoise and orange enamel jewelling. Hand-painted floral sprays in white and pink enamels with green leaves are also featured on the body and lid. The teapot comprises a globular body, a curved spout, a loop handle, and a domed lid with a pointed finial. The underside is marked with a yellow printed factory stamp reading F. & V. I. JOHN SADLER CENTRAL.PY BURSLEM ENGLAND NO 1476. Dimensions: H approx. 14 cm x W approx. 20.5 cm. Condition: There is a significant chip to the ceramic at the tip of the spout. The piece shows general surface wear consistent with age, including some rubbing and loss to the raised gilding and enamel beads. There are occasional minor surface scratches throughout the glaze.
