The barrel is stamped "Savage Arms Corporation — Westfield, Mass. — U.S.A." along with ".300 Savage" and a "Hi-Pressure Steel — Proof Tested" legend, the receiver is clearly marked "Savage Model 99," and the barrel shank carries the rifle's individual serial number — a number that, per published Savage 99 dating references, places manufacture in the early 1960s during the Westfield production era. The rifle retains the Model 99's famous hammerless, top-ejecting action with rotary spool magazine, a smooth-cycling loop lever, and a gold-toned trigger blade that pops nicely against the deep blued metal. The walnut pistol-grip stock and forearm are cut with diamond-point checkering panels, front and rear sling swivel studs are in place, and the barrel wears both a bead front sight and a folding rear leaf sight. The receiver has already been drilled and tapped with two-piece scope bases installed, making this one scope mount away from the field. Bluing presents well overall with honest handling marks consistent with age and use; the forearm tip shows a bit of lighter, mottled finish wear worth a close look in the accompanying photographs. A great-shooting, honestly-used example of Savage's legendary lever gun for hunters and Savage 99 collectors alike — the rotary-magazine action, clean hammerless lines, and purpose-built .300 Savage chambering that made this rifle a deer-woods standby for generations.
