1968 Topps Game #2 Mickey Mantle MLB Baseball Trading Card. A memorable vintage issue featuring one of the most celebrated and universally collected players in the history of baseball. Produced for the innovative 1968 Topps Game insert set, these cards were designed to bring the action of baseball directly to collectors, with each card featuring a Major League star alongside a specific game result that could be used to simulate an inning of baseball. The compact 33 card checklist was loaded with stars and Hall of Famers, but Mickey Mantle unquestionably stands among its most important subjects. By 1968, Mantle was nearing the conclusion of his extraordinary career with the New York Yankees, having already established himself as a three time American League MVP, Triple Crown winner, seven time World Series champion and one of the most feared switch hitters the game had ever seen. He ultimately retired with 536 career home runs before earning induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1974. The Topps Game issue is especially appealing because it represents Mantle during his final Major League season, giving the card additional historical significance within the vast catalog of Mantle collectibles. With its colorful game inspired design, distinctive format, late career significance and one of the most iconic names ever printed on a baseball card, this 1968 Topps Game Mickey Mantle is an outstanding addition to any Mantle, New York Yankees, vintage Topps, or advanced baseball card collection.
