TWO VINTAGE PYREX WHITE MILK GLASS MIXING BOWLS WITH RED RIM BAND - 403 2-1/2 QUART AND 401 A nesting pair of vintage PYREX white milk glass mixing bowls, each with a single red band painted just below the rim, both molded on the base with the raised Pyrex trademark. The larger bowl is marked 403 2 1/2 QT. and the smaller is marked 401, the two most familiar sizes in the classic Pyrex nesting bowl line. Both are the heavy opal white glass with a wide flat foot ring, deep rounded sides, and a plain rim, made to be beaten in, stacked, and used. They nest together for storage. These are honest kitchen bowls rather than shelf pieces, and they show it. Bidders should read the condition notes closely, since both bowls carry noticeable exterior staining, soil, and wear to the red bands, and the large bowl in particular is well used. Sold as a lot of two bowls. Description Large bowl - Pyrex white opal milk glass mixing bowl, deep rounded form with a wide flat foot ring and plain rim, decorated with a single red painted band running around the exterior just below the rim. Base is molded in raised glass lettering reading 403 2 1/2 QT. across the top, then TRADE MARK, the number 20, PYREX with the registered trademark symbol beneath it, then MADE IN U.S.A. and OVEN WARE around the lower edge of the ring. Measures approximately 9 to 9-1/2 inches in diameter across the rim and stands approximately 4-1/2 to 5 inches tall, per the tape-measure photographs, in which the tape is laid across the top of the bowl and stood on the table beside it rather than fixed to the piece, so both figures are close estimates. Small bowl - Pyrex white opal milk glass mixing bowl of the same form and finish, with a matching single red painted band below the rim. Base is molded in raised glass lettering reading 401 across the top, then TRADE MARK, the number 33, PYREX with the registered trademark symbol beneath it, then MADE IN U.S.A. and OVEN WARE around the lower edge of the ring. No capacity in quarts or pints is molded on this bowl's base, so none is claimed here. Measures approximately 6 to 6-1/2 inches in diameter across the rim and stands approximately 3-1/2 to 4 inches tall, per the tape-measure photographs, with the tape again laid across the rim and stood beside the bowl rather than fixed to it, so both figures are close estimates. Both bowls are plain white opal glass inside with no decoration on the interior and no printing other than the red exterior band. The two nest inside one another as pictured. Bidders should verify all dimensions from the photographs. Attribution note Pyrex is the borosilicate and later tempered soda-lime glass kitchenware line introduced by Corning Glass Works in 1915, and the opal white milk glass Pyrex kitchenware that most people picture, including the nesting mixing bowl sets, came later and ran for decades in enormous quantity.
