FIVE VINTAGE STATE SOUVENIR PLATES - IDEAL INDIANA, ILLINOIS, TWO KENTUCKY, VERMONT THE GREEN MOUNTAIN STATE A third souvenir plate grouping from the same estate, five plates this time, four of them with the gold filigree or gold lace borders that mark the classic 1950s and 1960s American souvenir plate, and one Vermont plate done entirely in brown transfer over a gold-splashed ground. Subjects are IDEAL INDIANA with the state flag, cardinal, peony, George Rogers Clark Memorial, Speedway at Indianapolis, On the Banks of the Wabash, University of Notre Dame, and the State Capitol Building, ILLINOIS with the Lincoln Tomb, State Capital, New Salem State Park The Lincoln Village, Starved Rock State Park, Pere Marquette State Park, Fort Massac State Park, Mississippi Palisades State Park, and Chicago, a Kentucky cardinal and goldenrod plate showing only the state bird and state flower, a second scenic Kentucky plate with Old Fort Harrod, My Old Kentucky Home, Audubon Memorial Museum, Kentucky Horse Park, Natural Bridge, Lincoln Birthplace, Churchill Downs, and the Jefferson Davis Monument, and VERMONT, THE GREEN MOUNTAIN STATE, with Maple Syrup Time, Skiing in Vermont, the Battle Monument at Bennington Center, the State Capitol, a covered bridge, and a granite quarry. Sizes run from roughly seven and a half inches up to roughly ten and a half inches. No maker mark is visible on any of the five backs, so no maker is claimed for any plate in this lot. Bidders should read the condition notes, since the gold borders show real wear and flaking on several plates and one back carries a stain. Sold as a lot of five plates. Description IDEAL INDIANA - round plate, white body with a wide border of brown and gold filigree scrollwork, the color center design showing the Indiana state flag with its torch and stars on a blue field framed by pink peony blossoms, banners lettered IDEAL above and INDIANA below, a CARDINAL perched on a yellow blossom at top, and captioned vignettes reading GEORGE ROGERS CLARK MEMORIAL, SPEEDWAY AT INDIANAPOLIS, ON THE BANKS OF THE WABASH, UNIVERSITY OF NOTRE DAME, and STATE CAPITOL BUILDING. The back is plain white and glazed with no maker mark, backstamp, or lettering visible. Measures approximately 10 inches in diameter per the tape-measure photograph. ILLINOIS - round plate, white body with a wide border of fine brown and gold lace filigree, the color center design lettered ILLINOIS in red across a blue sky, centered on the LINCOLN TOMB obelisk, with captioned vignettes reading STARVED ROCK STATE PARK, CHICAGO, FORT MASSAC STATE PARK, MISSISSIPPI PALISADES STATE PARK, NEW SALEM STATE PARK THE LINCOLN VILLAGE, STATE CAPITAL, and PERE MARQUETTE STATE PARK. The back is plain white and glazed with no maker mark visible, and shows a small yellow-tan stain roughly the size of a fingertip in the center of the foot area. Measures approximately 10-1/2 to 11 inches in diameter per the tape-measure photograph, the largest plate in the lot.
