1943-D Lincoln Steel Penny

A 1943-D Lincoln wheat cent on zinc-plated steel, in a stapled 2x2 flip marked 1943 D STeeL. The date is clear and the D sits below it at the lower right of the 3. The coin is medium gray with the zinc plating largely intact but toned down to a dull, slightly darkened gray, with darker toning collecting around the portrait, in the hair and along the rim. There is light circulation wear on the cheek and jaw and a few small dark flecks on the obverse. The reverse is medium gray with the plating intact and the wheat ears and lettering full and crisp, with a little darker toning at the rim. No rust and no corrosion blooms were seen, and the coin is not unnaturally bright, so it does not read as replated. Denver struck roughly 217 million steel cents in 1943, part of a total of over one billion across the three mints, which places these among the most common United States coins in existence. A bright reprocessed cent is worth less than an original like this. Estimated Value: $1 to $3. Sold as-is. Photos are the most accurate description of this lot.
