1906 Indian Head Cent

A bronze Indian Head cent whose date reads 1906 plainly in the close-up photographs. One paperwork note before you bid: the consignor's flip is handwritten 1903, but the coin is a 1906. The catalog title follows the coin; the flip is simply mislabeled. There is no mint mark below the wreath bow, which is correct, since no branch mint struck Indian cents in 1906. The coin appears to grade about Very Good to Fine. Color is an even medium brown with olive and reddish-tan mottling and a bluish-gray cast in the obverse fields. Feather outlines are complete, but the ribbon diamonds and LIBERTY on the headband are worn and not readable. A few dark specks show on the obverse with light rim toning. The reverse is the stronger side, with a full wreath, bold ONE CENT and visible shield lines. No corrosion, verdigris or cleaning brightness was seen. James Longacre's Indian Head design ran from 1859 to 1909, and the bronze alloy used from 1864 on is what gives this coin its warm brown color. Estimated Value: $3 to $6. Sold as-is.
