An antique salt-glazed stoneware crock produced by the Western Stoneware Company of Monmouth, Illinois. The cylindrical vessel features a reinforced flared rim and is decorated with cobalt blue markings. A stylized capacity numeral 2 with floral flourishes is positioned above a large transfer-printed maple leaf logo. The text within the leaf mark reads WESTERN STONEWARE CO. and includes the company designation. The exterior surface exhibits an all-over network of fine crazing characteristic of its age and material composition. Height: 9.25 inchesDiameter: 9.5 inchesThe crock is in fair antique condition with significant structural damage. A large vertical crack extends from the upper rim through the maple leaf decoration and continues across the base. The underside features a prominent Y-shaped or star-shaped structural crack. Several small chips and kiln pops are visible along the rim, and the interior shows staining consistent with utilitarian use.
