Antique hinged pipe vise built by Erie Tool Works. The frame is cast ERIE TOOL WORKS on one side and ERIE, PA U.S.A. on the other, and the top yoke is stamped No. 1-H. It sits on a heavy round bolt down base with four mounting holes so it can be through bolted to a bench or pipe stand. A coarse acme threaded screw runs down through the yoke and is turned by a steel tommy bar with ball ends. The top of the frame is hinged and swings open when you release the side latch lever, so a length of pipe drops straight into the jaws instead of threading in from the end. Both jaws carry deep serrated teeth. The vise stands about eleven inches tall to the top of the screw in the photos. Condition is good and solid with heavy surface rust, old dark paint and shop grime in the castings. No cracks or welds were seen and the screw threads look clean. Hinged pipe vises like this, also called yoke vises, were standard on a plumber bench, and Erie Tool Works pieces are collected by antique tool buyers. Estimated Value: $35 to $60 based on comparable recent sales. Sold as-is. Photos are the most accurate description of this lot. Written descriptions are a guide only and may contain errors.
