Two traditional German style nutcrackers. The first is a carved and painted wood figure about twelve inches tall on a round turned wood base in a natural cherry finish. Dressed as a Bavarian in a black hat with green band and feather brush, carved mustache and swept back hair, green scarf, red coat, black vest with white buttons, tan trousers, white socks, and black boots. One hand holds a wooden beer stein marked HB for the Hofbrauhaus in Munich, and the lever at his back works the jaw. The second is a cast iron lever nutcracker on a red painted wood base about seven inches long, with serrated jaw and long lever arm. A small hand painted Bavarian figure sits at the pivot in a green hat with blue crown and green jacket with gold and blue trim, holding a gold colored horn. Both are good. The wood figure has bright paint with light rubbing at the high points and a small worn area on the base rim. The cast iron piece has good paint with a few chips on the red base and a jaw that works freely. Estimated Value: $35 to $60 based on comparable recent sales. Sold as-is.
