Unique selection of a framed piece of art, perfect for home display. The piece is often referred to as “Nature morte sur la table” or essentially one of Dufour’s “Still Life” renditions. This direct works was produced in 1970, directly during Dufour’s transition from more abstract art of the 1960s to figurative art in the early 1970s. The piece captures a rustic and intimate atmosphere of a quiet moment, setting a simple table and chair as the center focal point of the picture. Upon the table sits some common household items such as a bowl of fruit and an oil lamp. The piece uses a warm earthy tone and a “sketch-like” quality that blends together for a unique display. Bernard Dufour (1922-2016) was a prominent French painter, photographer, and writer who evolved through several distinct artistic phases. This piece represents his work in his “Figurative Turn”. His work became deeply personal and “autobiographical,” focusing on the human gaze and the elements of life. In this direct still life piece, while it might appear simply, it is a quiet moment of observed narrative as Dufour’s art is being regrounded in the physical world. Overall picture is matted and set in a frame. The piece is an original acrylic painting on canvas, appearing to be done by the artist directly and not a produced print thereafter. The signature of “Bernard Dufour” can be found in orange paint to the right of the oil lamp, somewhat close to the top right corner. There is a clear authenticity to the painting as clear texture and a raised signature can be seen. The entirety of the piece with frame measures 20.5” H x 24” W.
