Dating to the World War I era, this Imperial German military headgear transport case is constructed of rigid black lacquered leather with a fitted oval base cap. Designed to protect a conical military helmet or shako, the interior features a soft, light-colored cloth lining with gathered fabric along the crown. The exterior body retains several period paper shipping and inspection labels written in German script, including a printed postal/parcel card section (Paketkarte) bearing the number 523and handwritten period inscriptions. This example exhibits honest age and storage wear throughout, including surface crazing, scuffing, and finish wear to the black leather, missing leather closure straps/loops, and chipping or loss across the adhered paper labels. The cloth lining shows mild age toning and faint dust staining but remains intact. Measures 10.5" tall, 11" x 9" lid, and the top is 4" diameter. A highly characterful Imperial German militaria accessory, ideal for completing a shako or Pickelhaube display ensemble.
