Black glass dark olive green round mallet shape wine bottle. Unembossed. Sand chip pontiled base. With applied string lip. English. Circa 1740s. This example was recovered from the York River in Virginia. Condition is water found with surface devitrification and scratching, and there is barnacle residue, a 1/4 inch chip to the underside of the string rim, and a 3/8 inch crack extending from the top of the lip down to just beneath the string rim, possibly in manufacture. Measures approximately 5 inches wide x 7 inches tall.
