1916 Bound Münchner Illustrierte Zeitung WWI

Published in 1916 by Süddeutsche Zeitungsgesellschaft m.b.H. in Munich, this original bound folio volume collects weekly wartime issues (Kriegsnummern) of the Münchner Illustrierte Zeitung: Süddeutsche Woche (Jahrgang IX, 1916). The folio contains all 52 weeks. Bound in stiff plain cardboard covers with brass screw-post posts along the inner spine edge, the volume contains extensive photojournalistic coverage of World War I. The interior pages feature cover art, photo-collages, combat reports, and full-page illustrations documenting naval operations in the North Sea, naval air warfare, captures of Allied prisoners ("Russische Gefangene am Stochod"), cityscapes of Frankfurt and Munich, cultural events, and home front activities. The large-format volume measures 14.75 x 10 inches. The plain cardboard covers display edge wear, corner bumping, surface scuffing, and minor edge chipping. The spine edge features period screw-post fasteners holding the text block together. Interior newsprint pages remain complete and intact, showing marginal toning, light edge tears, and occasional creasing typical of fragile period newsprint.
