This original WWII German military gas cape pouch (Gasplanentasche) is constructed from coarse grey-green canvas. Measuring 10 inches high by 8 inches wide, the flat envelope-style pouch was designed to hold the folded chemical protection sheet (Gasplane) worn attached to the soldier's gas mask canister harness. The top flap is secured by two painted metal press-snap fasteners mounted on fabric pull tabs. The reverse features two stitched canvas pass-through loops for strap attachment. The interior flap retains a faint red ink manufacturer or inspection stamp. The canvas body shows minor surface soiling and age staining, while the metal snap hardware displays visible surface rust and oxidation.
