Manufactured between 1902 and 1914, this Imperial German S98 n.A. bayonet features a single-edged quillback blade with a narrow fuller. The blade was later shortened to 17 inches and reprofiled at the tip for trench or utility use. The wooden grip scales exhibit finger grooves, heavy cracking, and severe wood loss along the tang. The steel hilt includes a straight crossguard, a muzzle ring, and a bird's-head pommel with a press-stud locking mechanism. Coarse welding slag and deep pitting appear around the ricasso and crossguard junction. The steel shows dark oxidation and surface wear, with no visible maker marks or acceptance stamps. Total length is 21.5 inches, blade thickness is 5.77 mm, and weight is 517 grams.
