This pair of Fernglas 08 binoculars, manufactured by Carl Zeiss in Jena, dates to World War I and is confirmed by a "1914" bridge hinge marking. The binoculars have distinctive gray-green painted metal barrels with a textured surface and measure approximately 4.5 inches high by 4.75 inches wide (11.4 cm x 12.1 cm), with a weight of 449 grams (15.8 oz). The central bridge washer carries the proper "Fernglas 08" model stamp, serial number "Nº 4446," and the frame-style "CARL ZEISS JENA" logo. Thepaint shows natural wear and surface distress from age and use. Both diopter focus mechanisms are fixed and nonfunctional, but the central hinge operates smoothly. The optical condition remains very good, with no defects. The binoculars are missingthe right eyecup, and the original leather neck strap is severed on the left side.
