ca. late 19th - 1930; Attributed to Central Atlantic states Appalachian region. The two baskets appear to be by the same hand/family of makers, each having a steam bent hoop handle and rim with froe split, shaved rib and weave construction with nailed hoop union with "X-weave" cover and overlapped lashed bracing and a tightly lashed rim: 1. Youth size egg basket with oval bent 3/4" wide hoop handle and 1/2" wide rim, 11" x 10" x 8 1/4", Condition: shows little use. 2. Adult size gathering basket with stain band accented weavers, round 7/8" wide hoop handle and 5/8" wide rim, 14 1/2" x 13" x 13", Condition: Shows wear and has darkened patina from use. Some of the ribs are exposed near union.
