Born from a moment of national remembrance, this 1964 Kennedy Half Dollar is the first-year issue honoring President John F. Kennedy. Struck in 90% silver, it contains approximately .3617 troy ounces of pure silver. The obverse features Kennedy's portrait, while the reverse displays the presidential seal with a heraldic eagle surrounded by stars. Following Kennedy's assassination in November 1963, the U.S. Mint moved quickly to create a circulating coin in his honor, with the Kennedy Half Dollar entering production in 1964. As the only year of the regular Kennedy Half Dollar series struck for circulation in 90% silver, the 1964 issue remains especially popular with both collectors and silver enthusiast
