Wonderful needlepoint sampler with bold colors and terrific imagery. Stitched is the saying "Now in the heat of youthful blood Remember your Creator God Behold the months coms hastning on When you shall say my joys are gone While hearts are young and hopes are high A fairy scene doth life appear Its sights are beauty to the eye Its sounds are music to the ear. This is to let you know and see what care my parents took of Me". Stitched at the bottom is "Sarah Hampshire Work aged 20-1837". Central image of Adam and Eve with the Tree of Life and the serpent wrapped around it. To the right is a sailing ship with three crosses representing Christ at Calvary. A peacock, owl, dog, birds and various flowers, trees and potted plants with a geometric border complete the sampler. A wonderful piece of folk art. Provenance: Purchased in 1991 from NJ dealers Leonard and Jacquelyn Balish. 21 1/2"H x 20"W Excellent condition, professionally framed.
