Silk on linen needlework sampler with alphabet and numerals. Decoration includes a floral border, birds, crown, fauna and geometric shapes. Sampler lists various members of the Sasseman (also spelled Sassmann) family. Stitched "Sophia Sasseman her sampler made in the 16th year of her age AD 1828". This was possibly done by Sophia Sassman who lived in Colebrookdale, Berks County, PA and was born circa 1810. Provenance: M. Finkel & Daughter who attribute the motif to the Quakers, possibly Chester County. 18"H x 17 1/2"W Very good condition and worthy of more research.
