1930s-40s Black Astrakhan Lamb Hat & Muff Set

Likely dating to the late 1930s or early 1940s, this coordinating black hat and muff purse set is covered in a dense Persian lamb-style curly pile. The close-fitting hat is embellished with sweeping black iridescent feathers and a silver-tone geometric ornament centered with a polished black stone. The matching rectangular muff doubles as a handbag, with a black fabric reverse, wrist strap, concealed zippered compartment, and brown satin-like interior. The metal zipper pull and slider are marked "TALON," consistent with the earlier dating. The set shows age-related wear including bending, splitting, and minor losses to the feather trim, light surface wear to the curly pile, and handling wear to the fabric backing and lining. The decorative hat ornament remains present, while the muff retains its wrist strap and zippered compartment. The muff measures 15 in. x 11 in.; hat dimensions best for 22" or smaller. A distinctive prewar to early wartime fashion accessory set, combining dramatic feathered millinery with a practical convertible muff purse design characteristic of the period.
