Colt Police Positive .38 SPL

Updated August 24, 2026

This Colt Police Positive double-action/single-action revolver is chambered in .38 Special and represents an important classic American service and sporting revolver design. Serial number 29251, this example features an approximately 4" barrel with a shiny bore and is in fair overall condition. The revolver is built around a steel frame with an exposed hammer, swing-out cylinder, and traditional grip profile. The bottom portion of the grips is cracked, adding to the visible age and wear of the firearm. More importantly, the cylinder is currently locked and the revolver needs work before it can operate properly. It should be professionally inspected and repaired prior to use. Colt introduced the Police Positive family in the early 20th century, and the line became widely associated with police, security, and civilian use. With its classic Colt styling, .38 Special chambering, shiny bore, and vintage character, this example offers a worthwhile restoration project for the Colt enthusiast. Please see photos.
