Hand Painted Southwestern Chip Carved Chair

Single hand painted Southwestern side chair in solid wood with pegged mortise and tenon joinery, a three board plank seat, box stretchers on all four sides and two shaped back splats. Chip carved sawtooth borders run along the crest, the lower back rail, the apron on all sides and the front stretcher, and carved chevron relief runs the full length of all four legs and both stiles. The paint is a distressed rose terracotta with two leaping deer on the seat, a saguaro cactus on each back splat, a yellow crescent moon, spirals and pink and blue grey zigzag on the legs. It measures about 18 inches wide and 38 inches tall. No mark and no artist signature, and the construction points to late 20th century artisan work rather than antique. Condition is fair with an open seam between two seat planks and bare wood at the seat edges. Sold as-is. Photos are the most accurate description of this lot.
