Gilt Carved Bench With Marble Top 24 Inch

Low gilt bench or coffee table with a loose marble slab top, about 24 inches long, 12 and a half deep and 14 inches tall. The marble is genuine stone, and here is why. The edge is hand worked with a chamfer and bullnose corners, the veining runs to the arris and continues down onto the chamfer, and there is natural translucency and a natural inclusion, with no mold seam and no gelcoat sheen. The frame is a different story. The gilding is gold and bronze paint over gesso rather than water gilt leaf, since the rubbed high points expose whitish gesso rather than red bole, and the leaf sprays and shell cartouches are applied composition ornament with visible seams and identical mirrored repeats. Condition is fair. The right front corner block is open and appears loose, and gilding is worn to bare wood on that post and all four feet. Sold as-is.
