A Dominion of Canada fractional currency note, popularly referred to as a shinplaster, with a face value of twenty-five cents and dated 2 January 1900. The black-inked obverse features a central denomination of 25 within a decorative lathework frame. To the right is a seated vignette of Britannia wearing a helmet and holding a trident while resting against a shield bearing the Union Jack; a sailing vessel is visible in the background. The note displays the printed signature of H. Boville, identified as the Deputy Minister of Finance, and includes the text AUTHORIZED BY R.S.C. CAP. 31. at the upper right. The reverse is printed in green ink with intricate geometric patterns and repeating denominations of 25 CENTS. Both sides carry the imprint of the American Bank Note Company, Ottawa.
