Constant Permeke (Belgian, 1886-1952) A striking mixed media work on paper, depicting two abstracted heads rendered in a palette of warm browns, ochre, deep red, and dark green/black. One head is shown frontally with closed eyes, while the other is in profile. Signed "Permeke" in the lower right. Unframed. Constant Permeke was a seminal Belgian painter and sculptor, widely recognized as the leading figure of Flemish Expressionism. He was an influential member of the Sint-Martens-Latem artists' colony, contributing significantly to modern Belgian art alongside contemporaries such as Albert Servaes and Gustave De Smet. His work often focused on monumental and simplified forms, reflecting a deep connection to rural life and the human condition.
