Amazonian Guardian Spirit Master Shipibo-Konibo Ceramic Sculpture. This commanding Amazonian Guardian Spirit is a completely original hand-crafted ceramic sculpture by Shipibo-Konibo master artisan Lily Sandoval Panduro. Modeled and painted entirely by hand, the work presents an imaginative anthropomorphic figure with an elongated body, crown-like head, outstretched arms, and a strong protective presence. The sculpture is extensively decorated with intricate kene designs covering the torso and reverse. Fine labyrinth-like lines are combined with bold symmetrical geometric forms in terracotta, cream, black, and deep brown, creating a visually powerful contrast across the figure's rounded body. Its unusually long arms, simplified facial features, sturdy legs, and crown-shaped head give the figure a mysterious and expressive character. The front is dominated by warm terracotta tones and densely painted linear decoration, while the reverse introduces a lighter field framed by bold black and reddish geometric motifs. Rather than representing a specifically documented animal or mythological being, the sculpture may be understood as an imaginative guardian figure inspired by the natural, spiritual, and visionary world associated with Shipibo-Konibo artistic culture. Its monumental stance and highly detailed surface make it an impressive example of contemporary Indigenous Amazonian ceramic art. Works by the artist have previously been presented through auctions organized by the Museo de Arte de Lima (MALI). ARTIST Lily Sandoval Panduro (Masisea, Ucayali, Peru, b. 1976) is a Shipibo-Konibo master ceramist associated with the Native Community of Nuevo San Rafael. Her original hand-modeled ceramics combine expressive representations of beings and animals with the intricate kene designs characteristic of Shipibo-Konibo visual culture. PROVENANCE Acquired directly from the artist in Peru for Gallery Arts & Auctions Co. AUTHENTICITY This sculpture is a completely original creation by Lily Sandoval Panduro and was acquired directly from the artist. A Certificate of Authenticity issued by the artist may be provided upon request, when available. MATERIALS AND TECHNIQUE Hand-modeled and hand-painted ceramic with traditional Shipibo-Konibo kene decoration and earth-toned pigments. DIMENSIONS Height: 15 1/4 in. Width from arm to arm: 9 1/4 in. Depth: 6 in. COLLECTION NOTE Carefully selected directly from the artist in Peru by Gallery Arts & Auctions Co. as part of its ongoing effort to present exceptional examples of master Peruvian folk art and Indigenous Amazonian ceramics.
