Pair of antique German bisque head socket dolls on ball-jointed composition and wood bodies. The first doll is a C.M. Bergmann Simon & Halbig character doll, incised to the reverse of the head C.M. BERGMANN WALTERSHAUSEN 1916 S & H. It features blue glass sleep eyes, feathered multi-stroke eyebrows, a brown mohair wig styled in ringlets with a pale-yellow ribbon, and an open mouth with four inset upper teeth. It is outfitted in a cream lace-ruffled blouse and a pink silk-style jumper with a gold-tone brooch, white undergarments, lace-knit socks, and black shoes. The second doll is a Heubach-Koppelsdorf, incised to the back of the head Made in Germany HEUBACH KOPPELSDORF 250 . 15/0. It features blue glass sleep eyes, a straight light-brown wig, and an open mouth with four inset upper teeth. The doll wears a white cotton dress with lace inserts, black stockings, and a green velvet-style bonnet with a metallic gold mesh brim. Largest is 23 inches (C.M. Bergmann doll). Both dolls exhibit expected age-related wear and surface crazing to the composition bodies with minor paint loss and chipping to the fingers. The bisque heads remain in good condition with minor surface grime. Clothing and accessories show typical vintage wear.
