Offered is a 1940 Walking Liberty Half Dollar, struck at the Philadelphia Mint. This classic U.S. silver half dollar is part of the highly collected Walking Liberty series. Please review the photos for the exact condition, surfaces, and overall appearance. The Walking Liberty Half Dollar was designed by renowned sculptor Adolph A. Weinman and was produced from 1916 through 1947. The obverse features Liberty walking toward the rising sun, draped in the American flag and carrying branches. The reverse depicts an eagle perched on a rock with its wings raised. The 1940 Philadelphia issue had a mintage of 9,156,000 coins and was struck in 90% silver and 10% copper. Each coin weighs 12.5 grams and contains approximately 0.3617 troy ounces of pure silver.
