Offered is an 1863 Indian Head Cent in Very Good (VG) condition. This Civil War-era U.S. cent features Liberty wearing a Native American-style headdress on the obverse and a shield, denomination, and wreath design on the reverse. Please review the photos for the exact condition, remaining detail, and surfaces. The Indian Head Cent was designed by James B. Longacre and produced from 1859 through 1909. The 1863 issue was struck at the Philadelphia Mint and had a mintage of 49,840,000 pieces, making it the highest-mintage year of the copper-nickel Indian Head Cents produced from 1860–1864. The 1863 cent was struck in the distinctive 88% copper and 12% nickel composition, commonly called a copper-nickel or “white cent.” It weighs approximately 4.70 grams and has a plain edge.
