Lot of (24) 1976 Two-Dollar Notes, featuring the first year of the modern $2 Federal Reserve Note design. These notes are especially collectible for their Bicentennial-era 1976 issue date and are a fun piece of modern U.S. currency history. The 1976 $2 Federal Reserve Note was issued beginning in 1976 as part of the redesign of the denomination. The reverse features John Trumbull’s famous painting “Declaration of Independence,” while the obverse retains Thomas Jefferson’s portrait. Unlike earlier $2 United States Notes, the 1976 issue is a Federal Reserve Note and remains legal tender at its $2 face value.
