Striking Austrian Art Nouveau art glass vase attributed to Loetz, blown in vivid olive-green glass with a strong metallic iridescent surface flashing blue, violet, gold, and turquoise as the light changes. The dramatic form rises from an exaggerated deeply lobed, almost pumpkin-like lower body into a narrow waist and tall flaring trumpet neck, the molded vertical ribs continuing upward to unify the silhouette. The pronounced rounded lobes and flowing organic contour are characteristic of the experimental molded forms produced by Loetz around the turn of the 20th century, when the firm was developing numerous variations of green iridescent “Creta” glass. Comparable Loetz production includes green iridescent ribbed and lobed forms as well as Creta-pattern vessels with similarly pronounced molded contours. The underside has a broad ground pontil area and extensive age-related scratching and shelf wear; no clearly legible factory signature is visible in the photographs. The body shows scattered surface scratches and manufacturing irregularities including bubbles and tooling marks, with a small nick/chip visible at the upper rim, but the imposing sculptural form and colorful iridescence remain highly decorative. Measures 9.5"H x 5"W.
