English mahogany campaign lap desk, extensively mounted with brass straps, corner protectors, shield-form cartouche, and matching escutcheon, raised on a later fitted mahogany stand with square legs. The hinged case opens to reveal a black leather-covered folding writing surface with gilt Greek-key and foliate borders, fitted pen and accessory compartments, two removable brass-capped inkwells, small drawers, and a concealed storage well beneath the writing panel. Displays attractive figured grain and a warm aged surface, with expected scratches, finish wear, minor veneer losses, separation and deterioration along the leather writing surface, and the lid presently sitting slightly raised; no key is included. Comparable examples are generally cataloged as 19th-century English campaign writing boxes. Box measures 6"H x 16"W x 9"D, stand is 12"H x 16.25"W x 10"D and 18"H overall.
