GOURD VASE. <br>H:31.5cm W:17.8cm This is a blue-and-white gourd vase dating to Yuan or Ming Dynasty, with tiny straight mouth, two stacked rounded bellies (small upper, large lower) and shallow ring foot. Covered with pale cyan white glaze, the whole body is fully painted with hornless dragon motifs winding freely across the blank space, with vivid sharply rendered claws and manes. The cobalt blue carries soft greyish tone rendered in unrestrained primitive brushwork. Gourd sounds identical to "blessing and fortune" in Chinese, while hornless dragon symbolizes warding off evil and bringing good luck.
