PAVILION PAINTING JAR. <br>H:28.3cm W:34cm This is a large blue-and-white jar of Yuan Dynasty, with wide short straight mouth, broad plump shoulder, rounded belly and tapering lower body supported by shallow ring foot. The pale cyan-white glaze is decorated with layered cobalt patterns: sea waves around the rim, interlocking peony flowers encircling the shoulder, while the main body depicts two ancient scholars strolling in a classical garden, set with railings, plantain, parasol trees and blossoms, rendered with smooth flowing robe lines and elegant facial expressions. Divided vertical lotus petal bands decorate the base. Painted with imported Su Ma Li Qing cobalt pigment, the blue tone is rich vivid with multi-layer brushwork. The garden scholar motif embodies the reclusive leisurely taste of literati, and peony symbolizes lasting wealth and prosperity.
