DE DELFTSE PAUW POLYCHROME DELFT BALUSTER VASES

AVAILABLE for SHIPPING or LOCAL PICKUP > Despite a chip to the underside base rim of one example, a striking PAIR of De Delftse Pauw hand painted Dutch covered vases, each standing approximately 17" tall to the finial and measuring 8" in diameter across the shoulders. Each matching baluster form vase features a domed removable cover with a blue tipped pointed finial, broad rounded shoulders, a gently tapered lower body, and a flared circular foot. The white glazed earthenware is richly decorated in iron red, burnt orange, cobalt blue, green, brown, and black. Continuous Dutch village landscapes encircle the bodies, presenting windmills, canal side houses, church steeples, trees, fencing, waterways, and distant architecture. Coordinating floral borders extend across the shoulders, necks, lower bodies, and covers, framed by scalloped cobalt outlines and narrow orange bands. The recessed underside of each vase bears the hand painted factory mark 36 ~ D.P. ~ DELFT, beneath a peaked device surrounded by three stars, together with decorator initials and the notation 1.5. The number 36 appears to identify the factory form, while the additional letters are associated with the individual decorator. De Delftse Pauw was established in 1954 in Rijswijk, near Delft, and produced hand painted pottery in the historic Dutch Delft tradition. The factory became known for both traditional cobalt decoration and elaborate polychrome wares depicting Dutch landscapes, florals, windmills, and village scenes. This pair likely dates from the 1960s or 1970s. The impressive scale and closely coordinated hand painted decoration allow the pair to serve as mantel, console, sideboard, cabinet, or entry hall accents within Dutch, European, traditional, grandmillennial, English country, or collected interiors.
