AVAILABLE for SHIPPING or LOCAL PICKUP > A group of -3- vintage wooden candlesticks, comprising a matched pair of barley twist examples standing approximately 10" tall and a coordinating single candlestick standing approximately 9" tall. Each rests on a circular wood base measuring approximately 4 1/2" in diameter. The matched pair features dark stained wood shafts carved in the traditional open spiral barley twist form, rising from molded circular bases. Each is fitted with a silver tone metal candle cup and broad drip pan, likely nickel silver or nickel plated metal. Comparable barley twist wood candlesticks with metal candle cups are commonly associated with English domestic furnishings of the early to mid 20th century, though no maker’s mark or exact factory attribution has been located for this pair. The single center candlestick presents a simpler turned baluster shaft with a shaped candle socket and broad circular base, finished in a similarly dark reddish brown tone. Together, the three create a coordinated but intentionally varied grouping suitable for a mantel, dining table, sideboard, console, or traditional interior. The barley twist motif has roots in 17th century European furniture and decorative arts and was repeatedly revived during the Victorian, Edwardian, and later English country furnishing periods. The spiral shafts add movement and architectural interest, while the metal candle fittings provide contrast against the dark wood.
