AVAILABLE for SHIPPING or LOCAL PICKUP > An original official program from the Alabama versus LSU football game played Saturday, September 29, 1951, at Ladd Memorial Stadium in Mobile. The illustrated cover features a blue football cleat and football arranged before a stadium field and patriotic red, white and blue wreath design. The printed cover price is THIRTY FIVE CENTS, and notes OFFICIAL PROGRAM and LADD MEMORIAL STADIUM. Interior pages include Alabama and Louisiana State University player photographs, team information, projected offensive and defensive lineups, officials and game related content with period advertising. A full color COCA COLA advertisement presents the LSU offense and Alabama defense beneath the wording DRINK COCA COLA ADD ZEST, while the rear cover carries a full color CAMEL CIGARETTES advertisement with the wording AMERICA’S MOST POPULAR CIGARETTE, FLAVOR and MILDNESS. LSU defeated No. 9 ranked Alabama 13 to 7 in the 1951 contest, which opened Southeastern Conference play for Alabama. LSU led 6 to 0 at halftime after quarterback James Barton completed a 20 yard touchdown pass to Warren Virgets. Bobby Marlow scored on a 1 yard run during the third quarter to give Alabama a 7 to 6 lead, before Leroy Labat answered with an 18 yard touchdown run that secured the LSU victory. The early Ladd Memorial Stadium date, documented game result, Alabama and LSU rivalry association, illustrated football cover and period COCA COLA and CAMEL CIGARETTES advertising give the program appeal for collectors of Crimson Tide, LSU Tigers, Mobile sports history, Southeastern Conference and Southern college football memorabilia.
