AVAILABLE for SHIPPING or LOCAL PICKUP > An original official program from the Alabama versus Auburn football game played Saturday, December 1, 1951, at Legion Field in Birmingham. The illustrated cover features a helmeted football player with the opposing team names and game information incorporated into the design. The printed cover price is THIRTY FIVE CENTS, and notes OFFICIAL PROGRAM. Interior pages include the Auburn and Alabama squad rosters with player names, numbers, positions, class years, heights and weights, along with game related content and period advertising. A full color CHESTERFIELD CIGARETTE center spread features the wording SCIENCE DISCOVERED IT YOU CAN PROVE IT and NO UNPLEASANT AFTER TASTE, while the rear cover carries a full color CAMEL CIGARETTES advertisement. Alabama defeated Auburn 25 to 7 in the 1951 game. The Crimson Tide led 13 to 0 at halftime behind touchdown runs by Bobby Marlow and James Melton. Marlow added touchdown runs of 39 and 22 yards during the third quarter, giving him three scores for the game, while Auburn’s only touchdown came on an 8 yard run by Homer Williams in the fourth quarter. The contest was the fourth Alabama Auburn meeting played at Legion Field following the 1948 revival of the rivalry and marked the first Iron Bowl for Auburn head coach Ralph Shug Jordan. The early Legion Field date, documented game result, Alabama and Auburn rivalry association, illustrated football cover and period tobacco advertising give the program appeal for collectors of Crimson Tide, Auburn Tigers, Iron Bowl and Southern college football memorabilia.
