AVAILABLE for SHIPPING or LOCAL PICKUP > Decorated by artist Maggie Smith, a notably large 1992 Gail Pittman Studio Annabella pottery mixing and serving bowl measuring 6.5 inches tall and 11.5 inches in diameter across the top. The lower interior is hand-signed MATTIE SMITH '92, identifying Mattie Smith as the individual Gail Pittman Studio decorator who painted the bowl and documenting the production year as 1992. Unlike later retail examples carrying a standardized Gail Pittman signature or studio mark, early studio wares were sometimes signed by the resident artist responsible for the hand-painted decoration, making the Mattie Smith signature an important part of this bowl’s identification and Mississippi studio history. The Annabella pattern features a dark green rolled rim, broad plum and cobalt lower bands, blue crosshatched panels, mauve flowers, dark green foliage and smaller yellow, blue and rose accent blossoms painted around the deep rounded form. The substantial proportions support use as an extra-large mixing bowl, serving bowl, fruit bowl or decorative centerpiece. Gail Pittman moved her expanding pottery operation to Ridgeland, Mississippi, in 1992, the same year recorded by the decorator’s signature. The combination of the documented early date, named studio painter, large size and recognizable Annabella decoration gives the bowl particular appeal for collectors of Gail Pittman pottery, Mississippi decorative arts and individually signed studio production.
